The ABCs of Home Hydroponics: Everything (Little) You Need to Know
Hydroponics only looks complicated from the outside.
The fragmented information you find online can be confusing and make it seem like you need expert-level skills.
The truth is that growing with hydroponics can be very simple.
And it becomes simple especially when you’re not left on your own to figure everything out.
Idroponica Facile was born from direct experience.
We had the same doubts and faced the same difficulties as anyone starting out today. That’s why we designed kits, guides and support with one clear goal: to make hydroponics truly simple.
This is why we can confidently tell you one thing:
there are only a few things you need to know. And even fewer things you need to do.
THE ONLY THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
(and they’re easier than they look)
✅ pH: measure it and adjust it, nothing more
The pH tells you how “comfortable” the water is for the roots.
You don’t need to understand the theory: you just need to keep it in the right range (between 5.8 and 6.2).
This is how you do it:
- measure it with a pen-style meter (included in the complete Kits)
- if needed, adjust it with pH Down (Terra Aquatica)
pH Down is an acid (phosphoric), but it’s enough to use it with a bit of care and common sense, just like many products we already use at home. After all, we only need a few milligrams.
Measure, add a few drops, measure again. Done.
⏱ Time needed: 2–3 minutes
✅ EC: follow the doses and you’re good to go
EC tells you how much nutrient is in the water.
Here too, no complicated calculations:
- measure it with a pen-style meter
- prepare the water following the dosages indicated on the bottles
- rely on our guides
If the EC isn’t perfect? No problem at all: you simply do a basic top-up with water or nutrient solution.
You don’t need to empty everything or “start over”.
Hydroponics is far more forgiving than most people think.
⏱ Time needed: a few minutes when preparing the water
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO, IN PRACTICE
✅ Every 2–3 days: a quick check
Once the seedling is placed in the tower, the routine is truly minimal.
- check the water/nutrient level
- top up if needed
We’re talking about a couple of minutes, not “farm maintenance”.
It’s similar to checking a potted plant… just a bit cleaner.
⏱ Time needed: about 2 minutes
✅ About every 6 weeks: start fresh
Every now and then, it’s good for the plants too.
Roughly every 6 weeks:
- empty the tank
- prepare fresh water with nutrients
- start again
This keeps the system stable and makes your life easier in the long run.
⏱ Time needed: 15–20 minutes, at a relaxed pace

LIGHTS AND WATER PUMP:
IT’S ALL AUTOMATED
✅ Lights: set 15 hours and forget about them
The lights are automated.
You just need to set:
- 15 hours of light ON
- 9 hours of light OFF
Once it’s done, there’s nothing else to remember.
Plants love consistency, and automation does the work for you.
⏱ Time needed: 1 minute, just once
✅ Water pump: the timer does everything
The pump also works automatically.
A good average setting is:
- 5 minutes ON
- every 20 minutes
It’s easily programmed with an electrical timer, the one on the power cable.
When it’s warmer, you can let it run a bit more.
There’s no need to be precise to the minute: plants aren’t that strict.
⏱ Time needed: 10 seconds 😉 to set the timer
The less you do, the better it grows
The most common mistake when starting out is wanting to check everything, all the time.
Hydroponics works best when it’s stable.
Once it’s set up properly, the system does its job.
If you follow the instructions, use the right kits and avoid changing things every day, plants grow calmly and steadily.
Just like in nature.
In conclusion
Home hydroponics doesn’t require expert knowledge.
It simply requires knowing which few things really matter.
It’s easy because someone has already done the hard work of simplifying it for you:
- kits designed to work together
- clear guides
- support when you need it
Growing at home becomes a pleasant, clean and rewarding routine.
A concrete step towards more autonomy, more sustainability and more life at home.
